The Garrett County Commission for Women is seeking your recommendation of an outstanding Garrett County woman for induction into the Garrett County Women’s Hall of Fame. Nominees should be women who have made outstanding contributions to Garrett County and are role models for tomorrow’s female leaders. The Garrett County Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 1995 through the efforts of the Garrett County Commission for Women. Its purpose is to honor local women who have made substantial or outstanding contributions to the economic, political, and cultural life of Garrett County. Up to three women are inducted each year. Gallagher, chair of the Garrett County Commission for Women. “Looking at the median earnings comparisons, it is significantly less in all areas for females, compared to males,” she told the Garrett County commissioners during the GCCW’s annual report last week. The Garrett County Commission for Women (GCCW) is accepting applications for its 2019-2020 academic year scholarships. The organization is granting $500 scholarships for up to five recipients. “These scholarships help women to improve their lives which, in turn, benefits our community,” stated a spokesperson. The Commission for Women established the scholarship project to help women residents of Garrett County complete their educational requirements, leading to a degree or certificate beyond the high school level. The Maryland Commission for Women (MCW) conducted a series of public forums around the state inviting women in Maryland’s diverse regions and communities to talk about the challenges they encounter in their everyday lives. The Voices of Maryland Women Listening Tour was a coordinated partnership with county Commissions for Women and other organizations around the state to hold listening sessions in their communities.
